3
00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:16,976
i know you're on
the mend but if you

4
00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:17,976

long and hard about

8
00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:25,000
my father

9
00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:26,976

19
00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:03,400

20
00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:04,976
even adopt it

21
00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:07,533

take her away i'll

24
00:01:11,000 --> 00:01:11,976

25
00:01:12,000 --> 00:01:13,000

70
00:04:10,000 --> 00:04:11,000

71
00:04:13,000 --> 00:04:15,400
since you're here
i don't have it now

72
00:04:19,000 --> 00:04:20,976
it's 200 pound in

73
00:04:21,000 --> 00:04:22,867
present from the mississippi

74
00:04:23,000 --> 00:04:25,200
oh my god if you
want a good start

75
00:04:26,000 --> 00:04:28,333
more than a start
i'd say how do you

76
00:04:29,000 --> 00:04:29,976
think it's too much
sucking though

77
00:04:30,000 --> 00:04:32,467
i didn't say a lot
it's just well i've

78
00:04:33,000 --> 00:04:35,267
never seen so much
money in my life

79
00:04:36,000 --> 00:04:37,800
all right thanks mr royston

80
00:04:39,000 --> 00:04:40,680
thanks very much welcome

81
00:04:45,000 --> 00:04:46,976
and you fell in the
back last week but

82
00:04:47,000 --> 00:04:47,976
you will still have
to have a bath

83
00:04:48,000 --> 00:04:48,001
tonight

84
00:04:48,000 --> 00:04:49,867
a bath no cow buyer likes no

85
00:04:52,000 --> 00:04:54,533
and what's wrong
with that mom oh don't

86
00:04:56,000 --> 00:04:57,976
ask me yes kid it's her wedding

87
00:04:58,000 --> 00:04:59,976
if you don't want a
bath gabriel that's

88
00:05:00,000 --> 00:05:01,000
fine by me

89
00:05:02,000 --> 00:05:02,976
just so long as you
don't mind walking

90
00:05:03,000 --> 00:05:04,976
to the church and
standing outside

91
00:05:05,000 --> 00:05:07,133
all right all right
so some quiet

92
00:05:10,000 --> 00:05:11,800
when you raise your glasses

93
00:05:15,000 --> 00:05:16,867
to our kids to cater to kate

94
00:05:18,000 --> 00:05:19,600
hubs and friends tom

95
00:05:24,000 --> 00:05:25,000
kid

96
00:05:27,000 --> 00:05:29,133
your chair may be empty tomorrow

97
00:05:31,000 --> 00:05:33,267
but you'll still be
no heart oh dad

98
00:05:35,000 --> 00:05:37,067
don't kid you know it's unlucky

99
00:05:38,000 --> 00:05:39,867
no it's unlucky if you don't

100
00:05:42,000 --> 00:05:43,976
well what bride
didn't cry the night

101
00:05:44,000 --> 00:05:45,280
before a wedding

102
00:05:47,000 --> 00:05:48,976
that would be like
an irish week without

103
00:05:49,000 --> 00:05:49,976
whiskey in the teapot

104
00:05:50,000 --> 00:05:50,976
well don't if we've
got a teapot but i

105
00:05:51,000 --> 00:05:52,976
think there's some
whiskey in the studio

106
00:05:53,000 --> 00:05:54,000
[Music]

107
00:05:57,000 --> 00:05:58,000
excuse us

108
00:06:06,000 --> 00:06:07,000
[Music]

109
00:06:11,000 --> 00:06:13,533
splashing your
dad's mold in it to help

110
00:06:14,000 --> 00:06:15,000
you sleep

111
00:06:25,000 --> 00:06:27,133
you know you're
very special kate

112
00:06:30,000 --> 00:06:31,680
harry pig is a lucky man

113
00:06:33,000 --> 00:06:34,680
no mum i'm the lucky one

114
00:06:39,000 --> 00:06:40,976
harry could have had
any woman he wanted

115
00:06:41,000 --> 00:06:42,976
and i'm not
everybody's cup of tea

116
00:06:43,000 --> 00:06:44,976
isn't that what our
maggie said maggie's

117
00:06:45,000 --> 00:06:47,133
mouth works
faster than her brain

118
00:06:48,000 --> 00:06:49,000
that's true

119
00:06:52,000 --> 00:06:54,533
i'm gonna miss you
kid especially after

120
00:06:56,000 --> 00:06:58,200
losing tom to the
typhus last year

121
00:06:59,000 --> 00:07:01,067
the house will feel awful empty

122
00:07:02,000 --> 00:07:03,867
i'll miss you too all of you

123
00:07:06,000 --> 00:07:07,000
even maggie

124
00:07:11,000 --> 00:07:12,000
[Music]

125
00:07:15,000 --> 00:07:16,000
ma'am

126
00:07:19,000 --> 00:07:21,000
i was thinking about my father

127
00:07:24,000 --> 00:07:26,000
i mean roddy greenbank not dad

128
00:07:29,000 --> 00:07:31,267
what about him
a fine looking fella

129
00:07:33,000 --> 00:07:35,267
it's what you told
me and so he was

130
00:07:36,000 --> 00:07:38,400
had a good body and
a strong handsome

131
00:07:39,000 --> 00:07:40,000
face

132
00:07:41,000 --> 00:07:43,133
just like yours
that's one way of

133
00:07:44,000 --> 00:07:45,000
putting it

134
00:07:48,000 --> 00:07:50,533
did you feel for him
the way you do for

135
00:07:51,000 --> 00:07:51,976
dad

136
00:07:52,000 --> 00:07:54,267
no but i feel your
dad is different

137
00:07:57,000 --> 00:07:58,976
there's something
special between you

138
00:07:59,000 --> 00:08:00,000
two isn't it

139
00:08:01,000 --> 00:08:03,600
as you said that's
one way of putting it

140
00:08:04,000 --> 00:08:06,467
you know what i
mean it's there in the

141
00:08:07,000 --> 00:08:08,733
way you look at each other

142
00:08:09,000 --> 00:08:11,600
and you don't feel
like that about harry

143
00:08:13,000 --> 00:08:14,000
i don't know

144
00:08:17,000 --> 00:08:19,000
you're right what do you think

145
00:08:28,000 --> 00:08:29,976
she's having the same
doubts every woman

146
00:08:30,000 --> 00:08:31,976
has the night before a wedding

147
00:08:32,000 --> 00:08:33,200
well you didn't

148
00:08:36,000 --> 00:08:37,800
did you didn't sneak a wink

149
00:08:41,000 --> 00:08:42,680
it's frightened to death

150
00:08:44,000 --> 00:08:45,000
me too

151
00:08:55,000 --> 00:08:56,976
but harry's got
a twist in his gut

152
00:08:57,000 --> 00:08:58,000
tonight

153
00:09:01,000 --> 00:09:02,976
you mean the
money didn't settle his

154
00:09:03,000 --> 00:09:04,976
nose i'll just find
out about that

155
00:09:05,000 --> 00:09:07,533
wow i was burning
a hole in your pocket

156
00:09:08,000 --> 00:09:09,000
all day

157
00:09:10,000 --> 00:09:11,120
everybody knew

158
00:09:14,000 --> 00:09:16,067
oh so how much did you give him

159
00:09:17,000 --> 00:09:18,120
200 200 pounds

160
00:09:21,000 --> 00:09:23,600
my god well i just
wanted to make it all

161
00:09:24,000 --> 00:09:25,680
right for kate you know

162
00:09:27,000 --> 00:09:28,600
you great soft devil

163
00:09:31,000 --> 00:09:33,600
you know sometimes
i think you care more

164
00:09:35,000 --> 00:09:36,040
for that girl

165
00:09:37,000 --> 00:09:39,000
than all your own put together

166
00:09:51,000 --> 00:09:52,000
[Music]

167
00:10:09,000 --> 00:10:10,000
[Music]

168

170
00:10:27,000 --> 00:10:29,267
oh thanks mr royce

171
00:10:31,000 --> 00:10:32,000
[Music]

172
00:10:39,000 --> 00:10:40,680
okay you look funny don't

173
00:10:42,000 --> 00:10:44,467

174
00:10:45,000 --> 00:10:45,976

177
00:10:50,000 --> 00:10:51,000

178
00:10:52,000 --> 00:10:54,600
oh i'm sorry i'm all
worked up oh you're

179
00:10:55,000 --> 00:10:55,976
supposed to be

180
00:10:56,000 --> 00:10:57,976
if it ever happens
to me they'd have to

181
00:10:58,000 --> 00:10:59,976
carry me into church on a door

182
00:11:00,000 --> 00:11:00,976
in the groom out on
it when he realizes

183
00:11:01,000 --> 00:11:02,867
what he's let himself in for

184
00:11:08,000 --> 00:11:09,800
you look lovely mum you too

200
00:12:52,000 --> 00:12:53,933

207
00:13:25,000 --> 00:13:26,000

211
00:13:41,000 --> 00:13:43,533

00:13:45,000 --> 00:13:45,976
you know what it's like i mean

213
00:13:46,000 --> 00:13:48,467
it was a bit slow
getting started this

214
00:13:59,000 --> 00:13:59,976
[Music]

215
00:14:00,000 --> 00:14:01,000

216
00:14:02,000 --> 00:14:03,000
[Music]

217
00:14:14,000 --> 00:14:15,000

222
00:14:51,000 --> 00:14:51,001
[Applause]

225
00:15:10,000 --> 00:15:11,000

227
00:15:30,000 --> 00:15:31,000

291
00:20:01,000 --> 00:20:02,867

292
00:20:03,000 --> 00:20:03,976
well cis mr bentley trying to

293
00:20:04,000 --> 00:20:05,976
assassinate one
of me family no sir

294
00:20:06,000 --> 00:20:08,467

296
00:20:27,000 --> 00:20:28,976

00:20:29,000 --> 00:20:29,976
redmond's nephew

298
00:20:30,000 --> 00:20:31,976
oh ma'am there's
life beyond more vail

299
00:20:32,000 --> 00:20:33,520
you know and anyway

300
00:20:34,000 --> 00:20:36,533
he's just a farmer
like us just like us

301
00:20:38,000 --> 00:20:38,976
it's got one of the
biggest farms in the

302
00:20:39,000 --> 00:20:40,933
district and a private income

303
00:20:41,000 --> 00:20:43,600
and you know the
other one flurry no but

304
00:20:44,000 --> 00:20:45,600
wouldn't you like to

305
00:20:46,000 --> 00:20:46,976
just get off the boat
from the americas

306
00:20:47,000 --> 00:20:47,976
by the sound of
him you tell that look

307
00:20:48,000 --> 00:20:49,976

308
00:20:50,000 --> 00:20:51,800
foreigner in the family dad

309
00:20:52,000 --> 00:20:53,976
now let's see about
audrey you're not

310
00:20:54,000 --> 00:20:55,800
gonna wait for the lot nope

311
00:20:56,000 --> 00:20:57,000
hello sorry

312
00:20:59,000 --> 00:20:59,976
didn't i see you
two hanging over

313
00:21:00,000 --> 00:21:01,600
lumley stuff you did

314
00:21:02,000 --> 00:21:03,976
and i don't think
they were thinking of

315
00:21:04,000 --> 00:21:05,120
their stomachs

316
00:21:08,000 --> 00:21:09,680
hey they grow up so fast

317
00:21:11,000 --> 00:21:12,976
one minute you're
wiping their noses the

318
00:21:13,000 --> 00:21:14,976
next they're getting
themselves all

319
00:21:15,000 --> 00:21:15,976
worked up over

320
00:21:16,000 --> 00:21:17,976
men i'm not up to
another round of

321
00:21:18,000 --> 00:21:19,000
courtney

322
00:21:20,000 --> 00:21:22,533
oh flurry's fine and
young mr bentley's

323
00:21:23,000 --> 00:21:24,600
a steady enough salt

324
00:21:26,000 --> 00:21:28,467
but it's not flurry
or threatened over

325
00:21:29,000 --> 00:21:30,440
it's kate isn't it

326
00:21:32,000 --> 00:21:34,467
after spitting in a
few eyes and hexam

327
00:21:35,000 --> 00:21:35,976
sadly set foot out
of the house in a

328
00:21:36,000 --> 00:21:37,000
fortnight

329
00:21:38,000 --> 00:21:39,976
just worried she
might turn into some

330
00:21:40,000 --> 00:21:41,200
kind of recluse

331
00:21:44,000 --> 00:21:44,976
i've not had much
fresh air lately so

332
00:21:45,000 --> 00:21:46,600
i'm going for a ride

333
00:21:48,000 --> 00:21:50,467
what in god's name
not in those you're

334
00:21:52,000 --> 00:21:52,976
not

335
00:21:53,000 --> 00:21:55,333
where on earth did
you get them exam

336
00:21:56,000 --> 00:21:56,976
while you were spending
money on another

337
00:21:57,000 --> 00:21:58,680
bonnet for maggie well

338
00:21:59,000 --> 00:22:01,467
you can take them
straight back i will

339
00:22:03,000 --> 00:22:04,976
not you know how
i've always hated

340
00:22:05,000 --> 00:22:05,976
riding side saddle

341
00:22:06,000 --> 00:22:08,400
but you can't you'll
get your name up

342
00:22:10,000 --> 00:22:11,733
no more than it is already

343
00:22:13,000 --> 00:22:15,533
what was that you
were saying something

344
00:22:16,000 --> 00:22:17,867
about her becoming a recluse

345
00:22:18,000 --> 00:22:19,000
[Music]

346
00:22:24,000 --> 00:22:26,467
good morning kate
saddle ranger for me

347
00:22:27,000 --> 00:22:27,976
terry

348
00:22:28,000 --> 00:22:29,000
ray honest

349
00:22:32,000 --> 00:22:33,000
splendid

350
00:22:36,000 --> 00:22:37,976
big pardon i said
it's a splendid

351
00:22:38,000 --> 00:22:38,976
morning kate

352
00:22:39,000 --> 00:22:40,600
oh yes suppose it is

353
00:22:42,000 --> 00:22:42,976
would you be riding
over london bridge

354
00:22:43,000 --> 00:22:44,976
by any chance why
would i want to do

355
00:22:45,000 --> 00:22:45,976
that

356
00:22:46,000 --> 00:22:46,976
because it offers
the finest views in

357
00:22:47,000 --> 00:22:48,680
the county mr bentley

358
00:22:50,000 --> 00:22:50,976
i know what the
view is like from linden

359
00:22:51,000 --> 00:22:52,976
bridge i've written
over it since i was

360
00:22:53,000 --> 00:22:53,976
a little girl

361
00:22:54,000 --> 00:22:56,600
yes i'm sure you
have but rarely on such

362
00:22:57,000 --> 00:22:58,800
a beautiful morning as this

363
00:22:59,000 --> 00:23:00,360
child must be off

364
00:23:13,000 --> 00:23:14,000
[Music]

365
00:23:26,000 --> 00:23:28,333

366
00:23:29,000 --> 00:23:30,976

367
00:23:31,000 --> 00:23:32,976

370
00:23:37,000 --> 00:23:39,000

371
00:23:40,000 --> 00:23:41,976
everything all right i admit it

372
00:23:42,000 --> 00:23:42,976
after our brief
meeting in hexham i did

373
00:23:43,000 --> 00:23:43,976
mention to charles
that i'd like to see

374
00:23:44,000 --> 00:23:45,000
you again

375
00:23:46,000 --> 00:23:46,976
but i didn't expect
you to drop into my

376
00:23:47,000 --> 00:23:48,360
lap quite so soon

377
00:23:50,000 --> 00:23:51,680
anyways i'm sorry sorry

378
00:23:53,000 --> 00:23:55,133
maybe i should
just ask to myself

379
00:23:57,000 --> 00:23:58,000
your book

380
00:24:00,000 --> 00:24:02,333
it's fine mind you
the castle of the

381
00:24:03,000 --> 00:24:04,976
toronto could only
be improved by being

382
00:24:05,000 --> 00:24:05,976
stepped on

383
00:24:06,000 --> 00:24:07,976
well you've read
horus warfare mr first

384
00:24:08,000 --> 00:24:09,680
yes i have mr hamilton

385
00:24:10,000 --> 00:24:11,976
i've also read most
of the works of miss

386
00:24:12,000 --> 00:24:13,976
austin and sir
walter scott in fact i

387
00:24:14,000 --> 00:24:14,976
probably read more
books than all the

388
00:24:15,000 --> 00:24:16,800
men in hex and put together

389
00:24:18,000 --> 00:24:19,000
[Music]

390
00:24:29,000 --> 00:24:31,200
do you have a
good ride yes thanks

391
00:24:32,000 --> 00:24:33,000
[Music]

392
00:24:34,000 --> 00:24:36,333
she had a book
what did another book

393
00:24:37,000 --> 00:24:38,680
when she went out did she

394
00:24:48,000 --> 00:24:49,000
[Music]

395
00:24:54,000 --> 00:24:56,533
maggie ask terry
the saddle ranger will

396
00:24:58,000 --> 00:24:58,001
you

397
00:24:58,000 --> 00:24:59,800
i'm busy mom kate can do it

398
00:25:02,000 --> 00:25:04,200
no you do it and
be sharp about it

399
00:25:05,000 --> 00:25:07,533
mom this butchers
have returned hams to

400
00:25:08,000 --> 00:25:08,976
be good not to
mention a mountain of

401
00:25:09,000 --> 00:25:09,976
housework

402
00:25:10,000 --> 00:25:11,976
so how come our cake gets to go

403
00:25:12,000 --> 00:25:13,976
gallivanting again
while everybody else

404
00:25:14,000 --> 00:25:15,976
is working their
fingers to the bone

405
00:25:16,000 --> 00:25:17,976
sometimes i wonder
what happened to the

406
00:25:18,000 --> 00:25:18,976
sense you were born with

407
00:25:19,000 --> 00:25:21,600
that didn't answer
my question all right

408
00:25:23,000 --> 00:25:24,680
in two words hurry big

409
00:25:27,000 --> 00:25:27,976
after what happened
i think we need to

410
00:25:28,000 --> 00:25:30,467
make a few allowances
you mean spoiler

411
00:25:31,000 --> 00:25:31,976
even more than usual

412
00:25:32,000 --> 00:25:33,976
you know what i
think i'll get myself

413
00:25:34,000 --> 00:25:36,600
left at the altar i
could do with a good

414
00:25:40,000 --> 00:25:41,000
holiday

415
00:25:44,000 --> 00:25:45,000
[Music]

416
00:25:54,000 --> 00:25:55,000
so

417
00:25:57,000 --> 00:25:58,000
[Music]

418
00:26:14,000 --> 00:26:15,680
good day miss royston

419
00:26:18,000 --> 00:26:20,000
thank you my name is catherine

420
00:26:21,000 --> 00:26:22,680
but you may call me kate

421
00:26:28,000 --> 00:26:29,976
i'm afraid i don't
have any tea it's all

422
00:26:30,000 --> 00:26:31,933
right i like coffee i'm sorry

423
00:26:40,000 --> 00:26:41,000
milk sorry

424
00:26:43,000 --> 00:26:44,600
water water i can do

425
00:26:49,000 --> 00:26:51,400
i hope i'm not
interrupting your work

426
00:26:52,000 --> 00:26:53,867
you couldn't because i don't

427
00:26:57,000 --> 00:26:59,533
work i don't work i
thought perhaps you

428
00:27:00,000 --> 00:27:01,680
were an author yourself

429
00:27:02,000 --> 00:27:04,467
no i wish i was but
if sir walter were

430
00:27:05,000 --> 00:27:05,976
alive i'm afraid
he'd have nothing to

431
00:27:06,000 --> 00:27:07,000
fear for me

432
00:27:10,000 --> 00:27:11,976
so if it's not work
you must have

433
00:27:12,000 --> 00:27:12,976
another reason

434
00:27:13,000 --> 00:27:15,400
for what a visit in
england of course

435
00:27:22,000 --> 00:27:22,976
after my mother
and father died i was

436
00:27:23,000 --> 00:27:24,976
raised by my
grandparents and my dad's

437
00:27:25,000 --> 00:27:25,976
side

438
00:27:26,000 --> 00:27:27,976
grandpa hamilton
made a fortune building

439
00:27:28,000 --> 00:27:28,976
coaches and
eventually took me in the

440
00:27:29,000 --> 00:27:29,976
business

441
00:27:30,000 --> 00:27:31,976
then when he
passed on i inherited

442
00:27:32,000 --> 00:27:33,200
everything here

443
00:27:34,000 --> 00:27:36,600
you live like a popper
i was gonna say a

444
00:27:37,000 --> 00:27:37,976
recluse

445
00:27:38,000 --> 00:27:38,976
so you think i'm doing
pennants for some

446
00:27:39,000 --> 00:27:40,976
awful sin i've
committed i didn't say

447
00:27:41,000 --> 00:27:41,976
that

448
00:27:42,000 --> 00:27:44,600
maybe i am there
were things back home i

449
00:27:45,000 --> 00:27:47,533
needed to get away
from for a while not

450
00:27:48,000 --> 00:27:48,001
a woman

451
00:27:48,000 --> 00:27:50,533
not the way you might
think anyway yeah

452
00:27:51,000 --> 00:27:52,976
my maternal grandmother
came from these

453
00:27:53,000 --> 00:27:53,976
parts

454
00:27:54,000 --> 00:27:54,976
so it just seemed
like a good idea to

455
00:27:55,000 --> 00:27:56,976
come and dig into
family history what

456
00:27:57,000 --> 00:27:58,000
was the name

457
00:28:00,000 --> 00:28:01,000
fountain

458
00:28:03,000 --> 00:28:04,000
don't move

459
00:28:12,000 --> 00:28:13,976
so what about
the royston's local

460
00:28:14,000 --> 00:28:14,976
through and through i guess

461
00:28:15,000 --> 00:28:17,600
that's right but not
without your shared

462
00:28:19,000 --> 00:28:20,000
tragedy

463
00:28:22,000 --> 00:28:22,976
just a story i heard
when i was digging

464
00:28:23,000 --> 00:28:24,680
into my own family's past

465
00:28:25,000 --> 00:28:25,976
something about a
couple murders while

466
00:28:26,000 --> 00:28:28,533
back and how the
culprit hanged himself

467
00:28:29,000 --> 00:28:31,333
he was on one of
the culprits sounds

468
00:28:32,000 --> 00:28:32,976
like a bad business

469
00:28:33,000 --> 00:28:35,400
it was such things
are best forgotten

470
00:28:36,000 --> 00:28:37,000
kate

471
00:28:38,000 --> 00:28:39,976
i'm sure you're right
you'd have a hard

472
00:28:40,000 --> 00:28:42,133
job convincing my father of that

473
00:28:49,000 --> 00:28:51,267
sorry i'm late on
the table in five

474
00:28:53,000 --> 00:28:53,976
minutes

475
00:28:54,000 --> 00:28:54,976
more books she'll be wearing our

476
00:28:55,000 --> 00:28:56,000
eyeballs out

477
00:28:58,000 --> 00:28:59,976
well it started with
a bag of tea and a

478
00:29:00,000 --> 00:29:00,976
flask of milk

479
00:29:01,000 --> 00:29:02,976
then it was a meat
turnover and an apple

480
00:29:03,000 --> 00:29:04,000
pie

481
00:29:06,000 --> 00:29:06,976
give up what's the
answer what are you

482
00:29:07,000 --> 00:29:08,680
going on about kids rides

483
00:29:10,000 --> 00:29:11,933
my god then they're so stupid

484
00:29:14,000 --> 00:29:15,976
oh i will ride in the
hills gives you an

485
00:29:16,000 --> 00:29:17,680
appetite right enough

486
00:29:18,000 --> 00:29:19,976
just be grateful she's
not moving around

487
00:29:20,000 --> 00:29:21,867
the house day in and day out

488
00:29:23,000 --> 00:29:24,976
and what about the
books books what

489
00:29:25,000 --> 00:29:26,000
books

490
00:29:27,000 --> 00:29:27,976
marilyn what the
hell are you going on

491
00:29:28,000 --> 00:29:29,000
about oh

492
00:29:38,000 --> 00:29:38,976
kate can you give
me a hand with this

493
00:29:39,000 --> 00:29:40,000
please

494
00:29:41,000 --> 00:29:43,600
sorry maggie i can't
i've got a half day

495
00:29:44,000 --> 00:29:44,976
off

496
00:29:45,000 --> 00:29:46,976
another one didn't
you have yesterday

497
00:29:47,000 --> 00:29:47,976
afternoon off as well

498
00:29:48,000 --> 00:29:50,600
it's all right maggie
i'll help you it's

499
00:29:51,000 --> 00:29:51,976
one rule for you and
one for the rest of

500
00:29:52,000 --> 00:29:53,000
us isn't it

501
00:29:54,000 --> 00:29:55,800
that's not fair isn't it no

502
00:29:57,000 --> 00:29:59,533
it isn't after what
happened with harry

503
00:30:00,000 --> 00:30:01,976
i didn't take a
day off for weeks

504
00:30:02,000 --> 00:30:03,976
that's right she
didn't so the way i see

505
00:30:04,000 --> 00:30:04,976
it a few extra half
days now is just

506
00:30:05,000 --> 00:30:06,733
taking what i'm old flurry

507
00:30:08,000 --> 00:30:09,976
tell mom i'll be
back before dark it's

508
00:30:10,000 --> 00:30:11,733
always the same round here

509
00:30:15,000 --> 00:30:16,000
[Music]

510
00:30:20,000 --> 00:30:21,000
cake

511
00:30:34,000 --> 00:30:35,000
ben

512
00:30:39,000 --> 00:30:40,000
[Music]

513
00:30:48,000 --> 00:30:50,600
there's kate so sorry
but called away to

514
00:30:51,000 --> 00:30:52,680
newcastle on business

515
00:30:53,000 --> 00:30:53,976
meet me outside
ramshaw's reading rooms

516
00:30:54,000 --> 00:30:55,976
at 11 o'clock
tomorrow and i'll make it

517
00:30:56,000 --> 00:30:56,976
up to you

518
00:30:57,000 --> 00:30:58,976
meanwhile see what
you think of lauren

519
00:30:59,000 --> 00:30:59,976
stern miss you

520
00:31:00,000 --> 00:31:01,680
ben and i miss you too

521
00:31:12,000 --> 00:31:13,976
i've racked me brains
and there isn't an

522
00:31:14,000 --> 00:31:15,680
eligible man for miles

523
00:31:16,000 --> 00:31:17,976
who reads more
than a newspaper or a

524
00:31:18,000 --> 00:31:19,200
cuddle pamphlet

525
00:31:21,000 --> 00:31:23,133
is it him you're
ashamed of or us

526
00:31:25,000 --> 00:31:27,133
neither then why
the mystery kate

527
00:31:30,000 --> 00:31:31,976
because after what
happened with harry i

528
00:31:32,000 --> 00:31:33,976
don't want you and
dad getting any daft

529
00:31:34,000 --> 00:31:35,520
ideas in your heads

530
00:31:37,000 --> 00:31:38,120
not yet anyway

531
00:31:49,000 --> 00:31:50,000
[Music]

532
00:31:58,000 --> 00:31:58,976
[Applause]

533
00:31:59,000 --> 00:32:00,000
[Music]

534
00:32:05,000 --> 00:32:06,976
no i was beginning
to think you weren't

535
00:32:07,000 --> 00:32:08,976
coming it was
served you're right if i

536
00:32:09,000 --> 00:32:09,976
hadn't

537
00:32:10,000 --> 00:32:11,976
you know it said
you'd make it up to me

538
00:32:12,000 --> 00:32:13,976
well i thought we'd
go for a walk first

539
00:32:14,000 --> 00:32:14,976
then uh lunch at
the hotel is that the

540
00:32:15,000 --> 00:32:16,680
best you can do for now

541
00:32:17,000 --> 00:32:19,533
but i'm working on
it originally it was

542
00:32:21,000 --> 00:32:22,976
my intention to go
home in the fall but

543
00:32:23,000 --> 00:32:24,520
now i'm not so sure

544
00:32:27,000 --> 00:32:29,267
i've never met
anyone like you cake

545
00:32:30,000 --> 00:32:32,533
right from the first
meeting i've known

546
00:32:34,000 --> 00:32:35,733
our friendship was special

547
00:32:38,000 --> 00:32:38,976
i'm not sure friendship
is the best word

548
00:32:39,000 --> 00:32:41,133
to describe how i feel right now

549
00:32:43,000 --> 00:32:44,000
i know

550
00:32:56,000 --> 00:32:57,000
[Music]

551
00:33:08,000 --> 00:33:10,600
the poor old beggar's
had his day you're

552
00:33:11,000 --> 00:33:12,976
gonna have to
learn to master the

553
00:33:13,000 --> 00:33:13,976
accounts

554
00:33:14,000 --> 00:33:16,600
find a clever woman

right

557
00:33:24,000 --> 00:33:25,680
good god what is it dad

558
00:33:38,000 --> 00:33:39,000
[Music]

559
00:33:43,000 --> 00:33:45,000
you're wondering the study why

560
00:33:46,000 --> 00:33:47,000
[Music]

561
00:33:50,000 --> 00:33:51,600
john what's happened

562
00:33:54,000 --> 00:33:55,733
you just wanted that's all

563
00:34:02,000 --> 00:34:04,533
i was in town to
sell your father let's

564
00:34:05,000 --> 00:34:06,976
put his paintings
up when i found him

565
00:34:07,000 --> 00:34:08,976
he's been back to
england twice he said

566
00:34:09,000 --> 00:34:10,867
well that's his story anyway

567
00:34:11,000 --> 00:34:12,680
his wife's still in paris

568
00:34:15,000 --> 00:34:16,520
he wants to see you

569
00:34:21,000 --> 00:34:22,280
i don't know dad

570
00:34:25,000 --> 00:34:26,976
what do you think
it's not for me to

571
00:34:27,000 --> 00:34:28,000
save us

572
00:34:30,000 --> 00:34:31,976
but whatever you
decide will be fine by

573
00:34:32,000 --> 00:34:33,000
me

574
00:34:36,000 --> 00:34:37,000
[Music]

575
00:34:39,000 --> 00:34:40,976
you still think i've
got feelings for

576
00:34:41,000 --> 00:34:41,976
him

577
00:34:42,000 --> 00:34:43,000
don't you

578
00:34:46,000 --> 00:34:48,267
after all the years
i'm bearing you

579
00:34:50,000 --> 00:34:51,680
five children of your own

580
00:34:53,000 --> 00:34:55,467
ah stupid i know how
many times i must

581
00:34:56,000 --> 00:34:56,976
sell it

582
00:34:57,000 --> 00:34:58,440
hundreds thousands

583
00:35:04,000 --> 00:35:06,200
roddy was a young
girl's fancy arm

584
00:35:08,000 --> 00:35:10,267
just one of the
pains of growing up

585
00:35:17,000 --> 00:35:18,000
what

586
00:35:24,000 --> 00:35:24,976
what are we going
to do if you can't

587
00:35:25,000 --> 00:35:26,600
want to go away with

588
00:35:35,000 --> 00:35:36,000
[Music]

589
00:35:40,000 --> 00:35:41,680
it's coming it's coming

590
00:35:47,000 --> 00:35:48,000
[Applause]

591
00:35:51,000 --> 00:35:52,000
[Music]

592
00:35:59,000 --> 00:36:01,200
he's here and he
looks awful grand

593
00:36:24,000 --> 00:36:26,600
you sit down roddy
oh no thanks i'm fine

594
00:36:27,000 --> 00:36:29,533
i'm glad you've done
so well it must be

595
00:36:31,000 --> 00:36:31,976
a wonderful feeling
to have achieved all

596
00:36:32,000 --> 00:36:33,000
that

597
00:36:34,000 --> 00:36:35,976
i mean having you
work on show all over

598
00:36:36,000 --> 00:36:36,976
the place

599
00:36:37,000 --> 00:36:38,360
for christ's sake

600
00:36:42,000 --> 00:36:44,467
roddy you should
know there's not much

601
00:36:45,000 --> 00:36:45,976
of me in her

602
00:36:46,000 --> 00:36:48,467
and she has your
height but that's all

603
00:36:53,000 --> 00:36:54,000
kate

604
00:37:00,000 --> 00:37:00,976
flory away to the
kitchen and give annie

605
00:37:01,000 --> 00:37:02,520
a hand with the tea

606
00:37:10,000 --> 00:37:11,000
[Music]

607
00:37:13,000 --> 00:37:14,120
this is scared

608
00:37:22,000 --> 00:37:23,000
hello kate

609
00:37:27,000 --> 00:37:27,976
well don't stand
there with your tongue

610
00:37:28,000 --> 00:37:29,867
in a nut this is your father

611
00:37:31,000 --> 00:37:32,200
i know that dad

612
00:37:38,000 --> 00:37:39,680
how'd you do mr greenbank

613
00:37:43,000 --> 00:37:44,000
hal what

614
00:37:46,000 --> 00:37:46,976
let's go and see if
the girls have got

615
00:37:47,000 --> 00:37:48,280
everything ready

616
00:37:54,000 --> 00:37:56,533
your mother was
wrong you have her eyes

617
00:37:57,000 --> 00:37:58,680
that's what my dad says

618
00:38:00,000 --> 00:38:01,976
you want to know
why i've taken so long

619
00:38:02,000 --> 00:38:03,520
to come and see you

620
00:38:04,000 --> 00:38:06,333
i'm not sure that
i do well for what

621
00:38:07,000 --> 00:38:07,001
it's worth

622
00:38:07,000 --> 00:38:08,520
i was afraid afraid

623
00:38:11,000 --> 00:38:12,867
to see me no see your mother

624
00:38:16,000 --> 00:38:17,976
when we're young
kate we're governed by

625
00:38:18,000 --> 00:38:19,000
our passions

626
00:38:20,000 --> 00:38:21,976
and in the heat of
the moment we we

627
00:38:22,000 --> 00:38:22,976
sometimes do things
we regret for the

628
00:38:23,000 --> 00:38:24,360
rest of our lives

629
00:38:30,000 --> 00:38:31,000
so why now

630
00:38:33,000 --> 00:38:35,467
why cause all this
upset for everybody

631
00:38:37,000 --> 00:38:39,467
i'm getting old i
can't turn the clock

632
00:38:40,000 --> 00:38:41,600
back with mary ellen

633
00:38:42,000 --> 00:38:42,976
but i like to try and put things

634
00:38:43,000 --> 00:38:45,467
straight with you
before it's too late

635
00:38:46,000 --> 00:38:47,976
and just how do you
think you might do

636
00:38:48,000 --> 00:38:49,000
that

637
00:38:50,000 --> 00:38:51,976
i've got more money
than i can spend and

638
00:38:52,000 --> 00:38:53,200
i live in paris

639
00:38:54,000 --> 00:38:56,533
it's a different world
to this no smelt

640
00:38:57,000 --> 00:38:57,976
mills or

641
00:38:58,000 --> 00:39:00,133
coal mines and
to take you to the

642
00:39:01,000 --> 00:39:02,680
galleries and theaters

643
00:39:03,000 --> 00:39:04,976
to dress you in fine
clothes and show

644
00:39:05,000 --> 00:39:06,000
you off

645
00:39:07,000 --> 00:39:09,200
it would make me
a truly happy man

646
00:39:13,000 --> 00:39:14,680
and what about your wife

647
00:39:17,000 --> 00:39:17,976
do you think having
your illegitimate

648
00:39:18,000 --> 00:39:19,976
daughter just stayed
make her a truly

649
00:39:20,000 --> 00:39:21,000
happy woman

650
00:39:22,000 --> 00:39:23,976
my wife has lost the
knack of happiness

651
00:39:24,000 --> 00:39:25,000
kate

652
00:39:26,000 --> 00:39:27,976
so what do you
say will you take root

653
00:39:28,000 --> 00:39:28,976
here

654
00:39:29,000 --> 00:39:30,976
or will you come with me and see

655
00:39:31,000 --> 00:39:32,680
something of the world

656
00:39:49,000 --> 00:39:50,976
there's tea and
the rest of the family

657
00:39:51,000 --> 00:39:51,976
in the dining room

658
00:39:52,000 --> 00:39:53,976
i'm sorry mary ellen
but i have to get

659
00:39:54,000 --> 00:39:55,360
back to newcastle

660
00:39:57,000 --> 00:39:58,360
kate mr greenbank

661
00:40:08,000 --> 00:40:09,000
how

662
00:40:10,000 --> 00:40:11,360
i'll show you out

663
00:40:18,000 --> 00:40:19,976
he told me he made
a mess of things with

664
00:40:20,000 --> 00:40:21,000
mum

665
00:40:22,000 --> 00:40:24,533
and he asked me to
go to paris with him

666
00:40:25,000 --> 00:40:26,440
i thought he would

667
00:40:29,000 --> 00:40:31,400
couldn't see the
point mind after all

668
00:40:33,000 --> 00:40:35,467
couldn't be better
than hexan could it

669
00:40:43,000 --> 00:40:45,533
you and how you
should be very proud of

670
00:40:46,000 --> 00:40:47,000
her

671
00:40:49,000 --> 00:40:50,000
we are

672
00:40:59,000 --> 00:41:01,133
goodbye mary helen goodbye roddy

673
00:41:11,000 --> 00:41:12,000
[Music]

674
00:41:27,000 --> 00:41:28,200
get out the way

675
00:41:34,000 --> 00:41:34,976
when you've done
that you can give us a

676
00:41:35,000 --> 00:41:37,333
hand with the
skimming i know how to

677
00:41:38,000 --> 00:41:39,360
make cheese ma'am

678
00:41:43,000 --> 00:41:44,733
i'm sorry i didn't need to

679
00:41:47,000 --> 00:41:49,600
all right it's all
right last we all get

680
00:41:50,000 --> 00:41:51,120
a bit scratchy

681
00:41:53,000 --> 00:41:55,133
when we've got
things on our mind

682
00:42:00,000 --> 00:42:02,600
the night before
harry jilted me i asked

683
00:42:03,000 --> 00:42:05,067
you about your feelings for dad

684
00:42:06,000 --> 00:42:07,800
because i didn't understand

685
00:42:09,000 --> 00:42:10,680
but you do now is that it

686
00:42:14,000 --> 00:42:15,000
yes i do

687
00:42:18,000 --> 00:42:19,867
he must be very special this

688
00:42:21,000 --> 00:42:23,267
secret friend of
yours oh yes ma'am

689
00:42:27,000 --> 00:42:28,000
he is

690
00:42:30,000 --> 00:42:31,000
[Music]

691
00:42:38,000 --> 00:42:39,976
the royce and
sisters at work pure

692
00:42:40,000 --> 00:42:42,067
poetry you turning up uninvited

693
00:42:43,000 --> 00:42:44,976
you're cheap so you
don't want to go to

694
00:42:45,000 --> 00:42:46,733
my uncle's ball next month

695
00:42:48,000 --> 00:42:49,976
i thought the roystons
might want to go

696
00:42:50,000 --> 00:42:52,200
will your american
friend be there

697
00:42:53,000 --> 00:42:53,976
he's been invited but
whether he goes or

698
00:42:54,000 --> 00:42:55,976
not perhaps you
should ask your big

699
00:42:56,000 --> 00:42:57,000
sister that

700
00:42:59,000 --> 00:43:01,600
this is for kate kate
why not should she

701
00:43:02,000 --> 00:43:03,000
know

702
00:43:04,000 --> 00:43:06,133
charles well i'm not really sure

703
00:43:12,000 --> 00:43:13,976
why keep it a secret
kiss i'm not gonna

704
00:43:14,000 --> 00:43:15,000
eat him

705
00:43:16,000 --> 00:43:18,467
oh dad i told mamwire
and i'm sure she

706
00:43:19,000 --> 00:43:19,976
told you

707
00:43:20,000 --> 00:43:21,800
is it serious because if it

708
00:43:25,000 --> 00:43:27,533
that is probably do
with a good feed am

709
00:43:28,000 --> 00:43:29,680
i not asking for a meal

710
00:43:31,000 --> 00:43:32,976
oh i don't know
mommy he's not one for

711
00:43:33,000 --> 00:43:33,976
company

712
00:43:34,000 --> 00:43:35,976
well i'd say i'm not
good enough for him

713
00:43:36,000 --> 00:43:37,680
there of course it is

714
00:43:38,000 --> 00:43:39,976
well that's something
isn't it get him

715
00:43:40,000 --> 00:43:40,976
down for sunday tea

716
00:43:41,000 --> 00:43:42,976
i'll give you a man
of mystery the one

717
00:43:43,000 --> 00:43:44,000
so over

718
00:43:45,000 --> 00:43:47,200
all right i'll ask
him and i'm not

719
00:43:48,000 --> 00:43:49,520
making any promises

720
00:44:07,000 --> 00:44:08,000
i'm so sorry

721
00:44:12,000 --> 00:44:12,976
what two weeks
another word i was going

722
00:44:13,000 --> 00:44:13,976
crazy i couldn't
figure out what i'd

723
00:44:14,000 --> 00:44:15,976
done wrong you
hadn't done anything

724
00:44:16,000 --> 00:44:16,976
wrong

725
00:44:17,000 --> 00:44:19,467
it was me i got
scared no scared of me

726
00:44:21,000 --> 00:44:22,933
no i have my feelings for you

727
00:44:24,000 --> 00:44:24,976
and there's so
many things you don't

728
00:44:25,000 --> 00:44:26,040
know about me

729
00:44:28,000 --> 00:44:28,976
we all have a secret
key that's just the

730
00:44:29,000 --> 00:44:30,976
way it is what
i'm talking about's

731
00:44:31,000 --> 00:44:32,200
hardly a secret

732
00:44:33,000 --> 00:44:34,976
i mean harry baker
i know all about him

733
00:44:35,000 --> 00:44:35,976
you do

734
00:44:36,000 --> 00:44:37,200
charles told me

735
00:44:41,000 --> 00:44:42,000
i love you

736
00:44:46,000 --> 00:44:46,976
but it doesn't really
matter though does

737
00:44:47,000 --> 00:44:48,976
it not if you're going
back to america

738
00:44:49,000 --> 00:44:49,976
okay

739
00:44:50,000 --> 00:44:51,280
i bought a house

740
00:44:57,000 --> 00:44:58,000
[Music]

741
00:45:02,000 --> 00:45:03,000
where

742
00:45:10,000 --> 00:45:12,333
you can't buy it
you can't i already

743
00:45:13,000 --> 00:45:14,000
have

744
00:45:15,000 --> 00:45:15,976
the day i was in
newcastle when you

745
00:45:16,000 --> 00:45:17,680
called it the cottage

746
00:45:19,000 --> 00:45:20,976
you don't know
what you've done this

747
00:45:21,000 --> 00:45:21,976
house

748
00:45:22,000 --> 00:45:23,976
the people that
lived here my father i

749
00:45:24,000 --> 00:45:25,976
know all about what
happened between the

750
00:45:26,000 --> 00:45:28,267
royston's and the
abandonments kate

751
00:45:29,000 --> 00:45:29,976
in a way that's why
i came to england in

752
00:45:30,000 --> 00:45:31,200
the first place

753
00:45:34,000 --> 00:45:35,800
now i had to buy brooklyn's

754
00:45:37,000 --> 00:45:37,976
[Music]

755
00:45:38,000 --> 00:45:40,467
my grandmother told
me the story about

756
00:45:41,000 --> 00:45:41,976
the middle payroll and how

757
00:45:42,000 --> 00:45:43,976
dan bannerman
killed gabriel royce and

758
00:45:44,000 --> 00:45:45,520
and peter greenbank

759
00:45:46,000 --> 00:45:46,976
did she tell you how ballerman's

760
00:45:47,000 --> 00:45:48,976
daughter left my
dad to die in the barn

761
00:45:49,000 --> 00:45:51,600
yes she did or was
she a local historian

762
00:45:53,000 --> 00:45:55,000
no she was dan banneman's wife

763
00:45:57,000 --> 00:45:58,976
your daughter
martha was my mother

764
00:45:59,000 --> 00:45:59,976
please

765
00:46:00,000 --> 00:46:01,976
pastor bellamine your
mother hear me out

766
00:46:02,000 --> 00:46:02,976
kate why because
you only know half the

767
00:46:03,000 --> 00:46:03,976
story and it's only
right you should

768
00:46:04,000 --> 00:46:05,000
know it all

769
00:46:08,000 --> 00:46:09,520
right i'm listening

770
00:46:12,000 --> 00:46:14,533
after they left your
dad in the barn my

771
00:46:15,000 --> 00:46:15,976
mother and uncle
sailed for america with

772
00:46:16,000 --> 00:46:17,120
my grandmother

773
00:46:19,000 --> 00:46:20,976
my mother and father
met on board ship

774
00:46:21,000 --> 00:46:21,976
and they were
married soon after i

775
00:46:22,000 --> 00:46:23,000
docked

776
00:46:24,000 --> 00:46:26,267
i was born the
following year and i

777
00:46:27,000 --> 00:46:27,976
think she must have
hated me from the

778
00:46:28,000 --> 00:46:29,000
beginning

779
00:46:30,000 --> 00:46:31,000
[Music]

780
00:46:32,000 --> 00:46:32,976
my father's business
took him all over

781
00:46:33,000 --> 00:46:34,976
the country he'd be
away for weeks even

782
00:46:35,000 --> 00:46:36,280
months at a time

783
00:46:39,000 --> 00:46:40,976
and there were
always men around the

784
00:46:41,000 --> 00:46:42,000
house

785
00:46:43,000 --> 00:46:45,333
lots of them and i
was always in the

786
00:46:46,000 --> 00:46:47,933
wrong place at the wrong time

787
00:46:57,000 --> 00:46:58,000
[Music]

788
00:47:09,000 --> 00:47:10,933
my father died when i was 12.

789
00:47:12,000 --> 00:47:13,976
soon after my mother
fell downstairs and

790
00:47:14,000 --> 00:47:15,120
broke her neck

791
00:47:16,000 --> 00:47:17,976
when i looked back
at it the day she

792
00:47:18,000 --> 00:47:20,133
died was the happiest of my life

793
00:47:21,000 --> 00:47:23,533
until that day in
hexham when i met you

794
00:47:25,000 --> 00:47:26,976
i want to bury the
past kate and i want

795
00:47:27,000 --> 00:47:29,067
to raise a family here with you

796
00:47:30,000 --> 00:47:31,200
we can't we can

797
00:47:34,000 --> 00:47:35,680

798
00:47:37,000 --> 00:47:38,680
and we'll do it oh ben

799
00:47:41,000 --> 00:47:42,680
i love you so much but

800
00:47:45,000 --> 00:47:46,000
[Music]

801
00:47:50,000 --> 00:47:51,360
no i've got to go

802
00:47:54,000 --> 00:47:56,600
the way my father
still feels if he ever

803
00:47:58,000 --> 00:47:58,976
found out that you were martha

804
00:47:59,000 --> 00:47:59,976
bannerman's son

805
00:48:00,000 --> 00:48:02,133
it never rest until
you were dead

806
00:48:06,000 --> 00:48:07,000
